Old Indian Mills Rd Vacant Structure
September 1, 2007
At 13:22hrs Taskforce 172 was dispatched to RT 206 and Old Indian Mills Rd for a structure fire. Chief 1710 (S.Pratt) signed on enroute and was advised a single caller reported a vacant working structure fire. At the same time the New Jersey Forest Fire Service (NJFFS) lookout towers spotted the smoke and confirmed the report. DC 4310 (Freeman) arrived moments after dispatch and reported a working fire. Quint 4314 arrived first due dropped a 5" supply up the driveway and stretched a 2½" attack line. Chief 1710 arrived, established command and assigned DC 4310 as Safety and AC 4301 (Gerber) Operations. RE1712 (E.Snow) arrived, picked up the supply line and stretched a second attack line. T1716 (Mitchell) arrived shortly and established a much needed water supply. During this time the structure had become fully involved and was torching 30 ft trees. The NJFFS setup a perimeter around the structure with 5 wildland engines and 1 tender. These units extinguished many spot fires and assisted with the operation. A 5" supply was stretched from RE1712 back to E1723 on the corner of RT 206 and Old Indian Mills Rd. E1723 became the supply engine for the scene. The arriving tenders from the strike team arrived and hookedup. Once there was enough water on location RE1712 and E1723 directed their deck guns and multiple handlines to extinguish the blaze. A special thanks to the mutual aid chiefs and county coordinators for their assistance in running the command post, the NJFFS for their support and to Tabernacle Rescue Squad for the rehab area.
