Morning Door Pop
October 14th - Just before 09:00hrs Station 171 and the Virtua BLS crew were dispatched to the 100 block of South Pemberton Road for a motor vehicle accident involving a school bus with no kids on board. BLS1792 arrived on location and started patient care, followed by RE1712 (D'Amico). The Rescue Engine reported two vehicles to be involved with one in the road and the driver still inside. Upon assessing the injuries of the bus driver, it was concluded that the driver door of the bus would need to be removed for the safe removal of the driver. RE1712 went into service with hydraulic tools and quickly removed the door, allowing the access needed for BLS to remove their patient. Utility 1718 was also on location to setup for scene safety and support he crew from the Rescue Engine. Crews were cleaned up and back in service in less than a half hour.
Harness Training

October 11th - Twelve members participated in a harness drill this morning. This class was to instruct the proper way to wear and maintain our harnesses, how to lower an injured firefighter out of a window and how to bail out of a window if conditions warrant. The members look forward to continued training with this new addition to our personal protective equipment.
Fire Prevention Week 2009

October 9th - The members again traveled to Southampton Schools this morning. This time we visited the Preschool class, 1st and 2nd grades. The members presented a program geared toward the certain age groups that covered crawling low in smoke, good fire and bad fire, and the personal protective equipment worn by firefighters.
After lunch the Kindergarten and afternoon Preschool class made their way to our station as they have done for the last 30+ years. The children get a fire hand look at our equipment and station. The program is based around not playing with matches. The safety trailer provided by the Fort Dix Fire Department is also used to educate the children on hazards in the home and staying low in smoke. The members would like to thank the School District for allowing us to present such a valuable program to all of the grades.

Our annual Fire Prevention Open House finishes the day. The members were on hand to answer questions, demo tactics and instruct the adults on how to use a fire extinguisher. Many mutual aid companies, the Vincentown Emergency Squad and New Jersey State Police also participated in the event.
October 8th - This afternoon the members visited Southampton School #2 to present a fire education program to the 3rd and 4th grades. We educated both grades on the science of fire and the importance of fire escape plans.
