Fire Company Awarded Federal Grant for $32,300
April 2nd - The fire company received federal funding from the Department of Homeland Security. This will allow us to purchase 20 sets of structural firefighting gear. The gear will replace existing turnout gear that is anywhere from 9 to 11 years old. The National Fire Protection Agency recommends that structural firefighting gear be replaced every 10 years. We have received federal funding to offset the cost of purchasing equipment in 2002, 2006, 2007 and 2008, totaling $177,655. We worked hard to obtain the grant, which will help us comply with National Fire Protection Association standards, as well as better protect the citizens of Southampton. This purchase would have not been possible without this award. The officers and members would like to thank Continental Fire and Safety Equipment for their assistance with the entire process. Residents are always welcome to stop in Monday - Thursday between 6PM and 10PM to visit the station and look at items purchased with this federal funding. Our 20 sets of gear should arrive around the third week of May.
The grant is authorized under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG) for Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety. The grants work to strengthen the Nation's overall preparedness and enhance first responders' ability to protect the health and safety of the public.
