Early Morning Rescue
September 8th - Shortly after 04:30hrs members were awoken as companies were being dispatched to RT 38 in front of the NJ Motor Vehicle Inspection Station for a motor vehicle accident/rescue assignment. This alerted BLS 179, Rescue 171 and Engine 172. Chief 1710 (S.Pratt) signed enroute and was given the report of a single motor vehicle overturned with it's occupant still inside. Chief 1710 and RE1712 (D'Amico) with a full crew (6), arrived on location and confirmed the report. Upon size-up, the driver's door was open and patient access was gained. After a patient assessment by 1712's crew, command downsized the assignment and held it with the rescue engine and one BLS. As the crew was readying the patient for removal from the vehicle, it was determined that the company would need to go in-service with the rescue tools and remove the back door and "B" post in order to gain better mobility with extricating the patient in a safe manner. After the extrication was complete, the patient was handed over to BLS 349 and 171 units returned to quarters.
