Crews Weather the Weather

July 27th - As the hot and humid weekend was starting to wind down, the storms once again rolled in, brining with them heavy rain and lighting. Just after 14:30hrs, the company was alerted to the 100 block of Retreat Road for an activated alarm system. RE1712 (D'Amico) answered up in minutes with a crew of 5. While enroute, Central alerted RE1712 to redirect to the 400 block of Chairville Road for the dwelling fire, with the owner reporting the house struck by lighting and fire in the attic. RE1712 diverted to the priority incident and arrived first-due, followed shortly by T1716 (Spencer) also staffed with 5. Investigating, the crews found the chimney of the residence to have been struck by lightning with structural damage to the same. There was also fire in the wall of the upstairs bedroom and damage to the window frame adjacent to the chimney. Crews quickly assessed the residence and scaled the assignment back, holding with the Rescue Engine and the Tender. After being recalled from the incident on Chairville Road, E1723 diverted to the incident on Retreat Road, which crews determined to be a malfunction with the alarm system. Crews cleared from the Chairville incident in under 30 minutes.


Forestry Called for Brush Fire

July 24th - At 16:55hrs companies were dispatched to the 200 block of Red Lion Road for an unknown type fire in the rear of a sod field. RE1712 (E.Snow) responded with 5 to find what appeared to be a hedgerow on fire. Crews immediately made notifications to NJFFS which brought to the scene B3, B16 and B50 with a plow. Crews worked alongside forestry personnel to mitigate the incident and prevent any further threat to the thickly wooded area. A total of 4 loads were dumped on the affected area and the plow provided for a sure containment of the fire. T1716 (Mitchell) was on scene refilling forestry units. Utility 1718 (Harrison) was also on scene providing support. Companies cleared Red Lion Road just prior to 19:30hrs.


RIT and Tender on Medford Fire

July 23rd - Just before 23:00hrs, Chief 4300 (Welling) arrived on Highwood Court in Medford Twp. to find a 2-story dwelling with heavy fire showing and placed all companies in service. Knowing the area was not protected by hydrants and with the fire load present, he immediately requested a Tender Strike Team. This alerted the Vincent Fire Company for a Tender response. With staffing still in quarters from the evening's duty crew, T1716 (D'Amico) was on the street and responding with a crew of 5, less than a minute after dispatch. Before T1716 was out of the township, RIT 171 was dispatched to the same incident. This brought a response from RE1712 (Mitchell) also with a crew of 5, for the first-alarm RIT assignment. Upon T1716's arrival, the crew assisted with securing a water supply to the scene. upon RE1712's arrival, the crew went forward and setup on division delta for RIT operations. Once the services of the crew from T1716 were no longer needed at their first assignment, they moved up and joined the other crew for RIT operations. Once the fire was placed under control, orders for the RIT team were dismissed and both crews assisted with salvage and overhaul operations. T1716 was released from the scene at 01:23hrs after running four loads of water and RE1712 was released at 02:26hrs. All in all, the members exhibited strong dedication to the surrounding companies in providing the services as requested of them!


Duty Crew Runs Storm Related Calls

July 23rd - As severe weather was approaching, the duty crew in quarters secured the station for the potential power outages that would soon come. At 20:05hrs, the company and BLS were alerted to Indian Trail, in the Crescent Heights section for the alarm system. RE1712 (B.Pratt) responded and arrived to find the alarm activation due to a close proximity lightning strike. The fire company soon returned to quarters. The second storm related incident came at 21:31hrs when the company was alerted to Main Street, in the Village for the alarm system at Sterling Bank. RE1712 (B.Pratt) responded to find nothing evident from the address and no apparent alarm activation. The scene was turned over to the NJSP and the crew was back in quarters by 22:00hrs.


Rescue Engine Heads to Lumberton

July 4th - Before the Rescue Engine could get back in quarters from the previous fire, they heard the building being dispatched for the Dorado Gardens apartments in Lumberton Township. Being that they were already on the street, RE1712 (D'Amico) with 6, along with Chief 1710 (S.Pratt) headed that way to provide support in the event that it was a working fire. As circumstances would have it, while responding non-emergency traffic to the incident, Chief 1710 and RE1712 arrived soon after Chief 1301. In arriving first-due, the crew pulled the bumper line in an effort to ensure extinguishment of a brush fire along the exterior of one of the buildings and checked for extension of the same. the incident was quickly reduced to the in-district company along with RE1712, which cleared the incident, along with the Chief within 30 minutes.


Companies Make Quick Work of Trailer Fire

July 4th - Taskforce 1711 was dispatched to James Ave in the Mobile Estates section for a report of a trailer fire at 19:28hrs. Chief 1710 (S.Pratt) arrived to confirm the report due to an obvious smoke condition. First-due orders were given to RE1911, the duty crew out of Station 191, to go in-service with a 1¾" handline upon arrival. RE1712 (D'Amico) arrived second-due with 6, the chauffer picked up the first-due's water supply while the reminder of the crew was assigned to truck company operations. The engine company got a quick knock on the fire and the truck company was quick to open up, overall making quick work of the fire. T1716 (E.Snow) arrived third-due and was quick to relieve the crews working to complete overhaul operations. E1723 was also on scene with a crew of 2, while the remainder of the companies responding were staged and later released. Companies cleared the scene around 21:45hrs. Chief 1710 had "Command" and Chief 4300 (Welling) was "Safety."


Company Handles Double LZ

July 1st - At 16:32hrs Pemberton Boro companies were dispatched for a motorcycle accident on South Pemberton Road in the area of Father and Son Trucking. Chief 1900 (Bozoski) quickly answered up and based on reports, added Station 171 for the landing zone assignment. Upon arriving, Chief 1900 found a  motorcycle vs. a pickup truck, head-on in nature, with three injuries, two serious. RE1712 (D'Amico) was en route at 16:35hrs with 6. Crews setup and landed Southstar and PennStar 1 behind White Dotte Communications for the two serious injuries, while the other injury was transported by EMS to a local hospital.
