November keeping Volunteers Busier Than Usual

Members have been hard at work running calls for the past two weeks.  With October ending as an average month in call volume, November has taken off like a bullet.  As of November 12th, volunteers had responded to an astonishing total of 27 calls for the month and 408 for the year.

A brief rundown of incidents just within the past week:

November 12th – At 09:04 hrs C1710, RE1712, and E1713 responded to Route 206 and Retreat Rd. for a motor vehicle accident.  Crews handled patient care and secured the vehicles.  At 15:13 hours RE1712 responded to Station 501 (Mount Holly) as the Rescue Company for a cover assignment due to a house fire on Cherry Street.  While en route back to Station 171 after returning from the cover, RE1712 was alerted at 16:38 hrs to respond to 175 Madison Avenue in Mount Holly for a motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment.  Mount Holly BLS was on location shortly thereafter and advised there was no entrapment and RE1712 became available returning home.  While RE1712 was in Mount Holly, remaining members remained at Station 171 to staff E1713 in case any other calls came in.

November 11th – At 15:53 hrs RE1712 was added to respond to Burrs Mill Road and Route 70 for a motor vehicle accident in Station 172’s local.  RE1712 responded within a minute since several members were down the station after returning from a class.  Once E1722 signed on responding to the call, RE1712 was no longer needed and became available shortly after.

November 10th – At 17:16 hrs C1710, RE1712, and U1718 responded to Route 38 and Route 206 for a multiple vehicle accident.  Crews handled patient care, fluids, and controlled rush-hour traffic.

November 8th – At 9:09 hrs RE1712 and U1718 responded to a Transformer that had blown at 603 Avenue C.  At 17:32 hour, C1710, RE1712, and U1718 responded to Route 206 and Ridge Rd. for a motor vehicle accident.  RE1712’s crew worked to package the single patient and control fluids.  U1718 was used to remove the vehicle from the center of the roadway and units became available.

November 7th – RE1712 and E1713 responded to a wires call at Route 38 and Smithville Road.  The cable TV ad telephone wire was removed and units were made available.

November 6th – RE1712 responded along with E1722 on a reported brush fire on Route 70.  The fire, which was quite small, was handled by Station 172.

November 5th – After responding to three activated alarm system calls during the day, volunteers were called to Mohawk Trail in Medford Lakes for a Tanker Task Force assignment due to a working house fire there.  A minute later, the station was again dispatched to the same address for a RIT assignment.  RE1712 responded first with a crew of 6 and went directly into the scene for RIT duties.  C1710 and E1713 responded shortly after with a crew of 7 and ended up staging with other incoming apparatus since the Tanker Task Force proved to be not needed.  Due to T1716 being out of service due to repairs for the 5th week in a row, it was not available for the TTF assignment.  We hope to have it back sometime in the coming week.
