Weekend Brings Influx of Calls
Saturday September 23rd
12:22 PM – Companies were dispatched to 8 Banbury Lane in the Leisuretowne section of Southampton for a reported dwelling fire sending units from stations 171, 172, 431, 178 and 179. Chief 1710 (Pratt), RE1712 (D’Amico), E1713 (Bicking), and E4311 (Tabernacle) responded to the call. Chief 1710 arrived and was advised by the homeowner of an electrical malfunction in the heating system. RE1712 continued in for the investigation and all other units were returned.
6:04 PM – As members were home preparing to attend an outing hosted at Capt. D’Amico’s residence, Station 179, EMS Engine 171, and Medic 31 were dispatched in the Village of Vincentown to 5 Mill Street for a cardiac arrest. Chief 1710 (Pratt) and DC17101 (Snow) were on location within 30 seconds followed by RE1712 (Woods) within 2 minutes. The chiefs and crew worked rigorously until medics and BLS units arrived to transport the patient. BLS unit 4391 (Tabernacle) whom was clearing another call responded to transport the patient. While RE1712 was on this incident, another fully staffed crew remained at the station to handle any other calls which came in.
11:26 PM – As many members were just returning home from the outing at Capt. D'Amico's, units were dispatched to the intersection of Magnolia Road and Ongs Hat Road for a reported motor vehicle accident. Chief 1710 (Pratt), DC17101 (Snow), RE1712 (Woods), and E1713 (A.Allen) responded on the incident along with units from Pemberton. Chief 1900 (Bozoski) arrived to find the accident on Ongs Hat Road east of Stocktons Bridge Road. A vehicle had left the roadway at a high rate of speed and hit a tree ejecting both the patients. E1911 arrived followed by RE1712 and then E1713. 1911’s crew pulled a protective hose line due to the extreme amount of gasoline around the scene while all three crews began EMS treatment of the two patients. Both were transported to the LZ to be flown to the trauma center. Station 171 units cleared within 30 minutes. Pictures are below.

Sunday September 24th
3:54 AM – After running several calls Saturday night, members were awoken early to a wires call in front of 211 Hawkins Rd. Engine 4311 (Tabernacle) would handle the call due to the vicinity of the call to their station and Station 171 members returned home.
5:16 PM – Units were dispatched to Route 206 south of Ridge Road for a Motor Vehicle Accident with entrapment. Chief 1710 (S. Pratt), DC 17101 (Snow), RE1712 (B.Pratt), E1713 (Heffernan), and E1722 (Hampton Lakes) responded to the incident. Chief 1710 arrived to find a truck that had been towing a large enclosed race-car trailer which jack-knifed on the highway, struck a telephone pole, and then overturned. RE1712 and E1713’s crews stabilized the truck using Paratech struts and then went in service using both cutters removing the roof to free the patient. E1722's crew stood fast with an 1 3/4" hose line off RE1712. BLS units from Tabernacle and Hampton Lakes transported patients to hospitals. This is the company's 16th MVA with entrapment for the year.
6:19 PM – As units had just returned to the station from the accident on Route 206, companies were dispatched to 20 Estates Drive for a reported dwelling fire. Chief 1710, DC17101, RE1712, T1716, and E1723 responded on the call. Both chiefs arrived and were advised of an electrical problem inside the home. RE1712 was held for the investigation and other units were returned.
6:57 PM – After returning from the previous call, Stations 171 and 172 were dispatched to 100 Miss Mable Road at the Southampton School #2 for an alarm activation. DC17101, RE1712 and E1713 responded to the call, and once gaining entry, determined there was no hazard and reset the alarm to return home for the rest of the evening.

September 13
- The members chalked up their 15th rescue for 2006 early this morning at 03:30 hrs. The rescue box was dispatched to RT 206 and Carranza Rd sending Chief 1710 (Pratt), RE1712, E1713, U1718 along with stations 172,178 and 431. Chief 4301 (Smith) found the incident to be on Carranza Rd in his district. The companies continued in to find a single vehicle on its side into a utility pole with one trapped. The pole was broken in half, which brought down primary wires and 3 transformers. Due to the proximity of the vehicle to the pole it was decided to hold off on the rescue until the power company secured the power. Once the scene was secured the crew from RE1712 went in service with the Paratech Struts and cutters, removing the patient from the vehicle in 8 minutes E1713 was in service with fire suppression. The patient was turned over to awaiting BLS and ALS and then flown to Cooper Trauma Center. The members returned to quarters by 04:45. (Click here for Pictures)|
